Have you ever written a poem? If so, when was the last time? This week the staff at HM Prison, Hull, have a challenge to get your creative juices flowing…
Short Sharp Poem – can you write one in 15 minutes?
Write a five-line poem in 15 minutes. That’s it. There are no rules, no expectations and no set topic. This is simply your chance to write about anything that comes to mind, or anything that is on your mind.
If you have a bit more time…
Grab a friend and ask them to also write a poem and swap, perhaps give each other topics to write about, or words that must be used. Read them to each other and see how they compare.
What did you write about? Were you surprised what came to mind? Did your perception of poetry change from doing this task?
We would love to read your poems, display them any way you wish, for example if you live by the sea, could you write your poem in the sand? Share your poems on social media using #64MillionArtists and #ChallengeHull and tag Hull 2017 (on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).
If you haven’t already, join our Facebook group and connect with other challengers.
This year we are working in collaboration with Hull 2017, UK City of Culture to deliver transformative cultural activity and celebrate everyday creativity in 2017.
