Welcome to the very first weekly challenge of 2017. To celebrate Hull 2017, UK City of Culture we have worked with 52 organisations across Hull to help us set some of the challenges this year. We hope you’ll keep coming back and trying them out each week, and keep sharing!
This week we received a wonderful challenge from the team at Mencap – the leading voice of learning disability in the UK. Together, we have been thinking about nature, and the beautiful world around us. Regardless of whether you are a nature lover or not, this week, we would really like you to:
Give old nature new life and bring it into your home. Find some natural objects, like leaves or branches or stones and then make something beautiful out of them. Maybe a collage or a mobile? Or just a picture. Whatever works for you.
If you have more time …
Can you experiment with the materials you use? Is it possible to make prints from natural resources – pressing flowers is a great example of this. If it is not possible to bring nature your home, could you draw something that you have seen?
Did you see nature in a different way? How would you describe nature to an alien who has never encountered it before?
Send us a photograph of something you have created or found – we would love to see them. Don’t forget to tag #64MillionArtists and #ChallengeHull and share with us:
This year we are working in collaboration with Hull 2017, UK City of Culture to deliver transformative cultural activity and celebrate everyday creativity in 2017.
