What’s your role at 64 Million Artists and what do you love most about it?

I am co-director of tialt – there is an alternative and we’re really excited to be Research Associates for 64 Million Artists for the next three years. Our company focuses on bringing social research and artistic practice closer together to develop research methods which are more inclusive and creative. With 64 Million Artists, we’re working together to help understand the impact of the organisation’s work to support as many people across the country to be more creative.

What is your favourite way to get creative?

So many ways, depending on the mood! However, sound, walking and dance – combined! Often when I need inspiration, when I need to free my mind a bit, or to just use my body, I take long walks, often playing loud music or listening to podcasts. During this time I try to be as present as possible, tuning into what I’m hearing, connecting it to what I see around me or letting my body enjoy what I’m listening to. This often sparks new creative ideas, or just a sense of freedom.

Why is creativity important to you?

It feels so important because I believe it to be the unifier for us all and something we all have the ability to do (whether we realise it or not!) – for ourselves and to connect to others, across all fields and places, but what feels more important is that it happens in our homes; in the kitchen, in the classroom, in the conversations we have with loved ones or strangers – the everyday interactions.
