Hi, I'm Sian and work as a Wellbeing Officer for Golygfa Gwydyr (GG) (a non-profit community group) in Llanrwst, North Wales. We are very lucky to have a site up in the local forest to hold a variety of wellbeing sessions from sound baths and foraging to wildlife ID. These sessions are held outdoors for people to understand and gain the benefits of being in nature. We currently work with the local community (all ages), housing association groups and veterans. We have an active band at GG and there is an interest in developing the arts and creativity. That's why it's great to be part of the January Challenge to involve all at GG to establish a creative group and enjoy the benefits of this.
I chose this challenge as I have personally benefitted physically and mentally from the benefits of getting out into the woods/forest. A tree or a forest offers so much creativity, it changes with the seasons and time, if you look deeper you will find a whole other fascinating world of creatures and mycelium.... what each person will discover and create will be different. Being able to enjoy this creativity whilst also getting the benefits of being outdoors where anxiety and stress can be reduced has got to be good.
Do

Visit a tree - or trees! - in a park, woods, forest, or find videos or images of trees. How do you feel? Look up, look down, look again...what catches your attention, visually, sound, smell, taste. Stay with the trees or return home to draw, write, express in sound what the experience was for you. Take a second look. What is different this time?
Think
English

Think about how being by a tree, in a forest, looking at the images or videos of trees makes you feel. Noticing how nature makes you feel. Take time to look up and down and deeper into the space. What can you take from the experience.

We invite each group to share their experiences with each other and wider groups. We can offer sessions at Golygfa Gwydyr to share experiences. We can also invite and share on facebook and maybe approach the local library to exhibit work which would be great. #TheJanuaryChallenge
