Hi, I’m Sonal. I’m a Personal Power Coach and Artist based in London and I’m on a mission to help people break free from stress and live their most fully expressed lives.

Having experienced burnout myself I understand how easy it is for the everyday mental load of work, relationships and life in general to become too much to handle. When I was going through this challenging time, I intuitively turned to the things that brought me joy as a child, and drawing and painting were that for me.

I believe we were all born creative and that by reconnecting to these perhaps forgotten parts of ourselves, we create inner freedom and can access more lightness and joy in our lives. In my coaching work, I combine psychological tools and techniques, meditation and creative expression to help people unlock new levels of inner connection, courage and confidence.

Having worked with many people who have struggled with anxiety, stress and burnout, and having experienced burnout myself, I recognise that people often don’t make the space or know how to check in with themselves and connect to their inner experience. Once we are able to recognise what’s going on inside, we are able to take meaningful action to regulate our nervous systems and bring ourselves back to a grounded state. Often we find it hard to put our feelings into words, but this exercise gives people an outlet that is far more intuitive to express themselves, and build self awareness in the process.

Do

Find a piece of paper, card or anything you can draw on! Close your eyes and slowly take 3 deep breaths in and out. Now ask yourself “How am I feeling in THIS moment?”

See if you can feel the sensation in your body and also name it. Now choose one or two colours that you feel drawn to. Pick up a pen, pencil, crayon, or paint in those colours and draw or paint a shape that represents how you are feeling. (It could be a solid square, a swirl, or a series of connected shapes, for example).

Let your intuition guide you. Your drawing or painting can be as sparse or as detailed and decorated as you want. And you can spend as little or as much time as you want on it. Check to see if what you have drawn feels complete. Remember, there is no right or wrong way to do this exercise. The purpose here is to express yourself in whatever way feels intuitive.

(Gall fod yn sgwâr solet, chwyrlïad, neu’n gyfres o siapau cysylltiedig er enghraifft). Gadewch i’ch greddf eich arwain. Beth sy’n dymuno cael ei fynegi nawr?

Gall eich darlun neu baentiad fod mor fras neu fanwl neu addurnedig ag y dymunwch. A gallwch dreulio faint bynnag o amser ag y dymunwch yn ei greu. Holwch eich hun os yw’r hyn rydych chi wedi ei ddarlunio’n teimlo’n orffenedig.

Cofiwch, does dim ffordd gywir neu anghywir o wneud yr her hon. Ei phwrpas yw creu cysylltiad â’ch profiad mewnol, a mynegi eich hun mewn ffordd sy’n teimlo’n reddfol.

Take a look at your drawing. What thoughts / feelings / body sensations come up when you look at it?

Do you feel any differently after making your drawing compared to before?
