Self Portrait

Day 29: Self Portrait

Welsh translation: Hunan bortread

Ffion Pritchard

My name is Ffion Pritchard – I’m an artist, filmmaker and facilitator from North Wales! I am interested in how art can benefit society, be it through community-engaged art, art in healthcare or through the cathartic power of storytelling, humour and entertainment. I believe that a creative outlet can make a massive difference in each of our lives, through building community, confidence, improving mood and concentration and developing new skills! I’m very excited to be working as a Creativity Champion with 64 million artists, and am looking forward to working with my local community throughout January and beyond. The January challenge is a wonderful opportunity to create spontaneous work and unlock some creativity at the start of the year! I hope to use my role and the challenge to create new, informal opportunities for people to get together and create.

Throughout my studies and career, I have completed a large number of self portraits. Looking back at them, I love seeing how I, and my work, have changed over the years. I often use this activity as an ice breaker, as it’s a great way to break barriers and get people talking about their interests. I also love the debate of what can be considered a ‘self portrait’ and considering more abstract responses! There really is no limit to this one, a self portrait can be a scribble on the table, a piece of poetry, a formation of rocks, if you think it represents you!

Fy enw i yw Ffion Pritchard – dwi’n artist, gwneuthurwr ffilmiau a hwylusydd o ogledd Cymru! Mae gen i ddiddordeb yn y modd y gall celf fod o fudd i gymdeithas, drwy ymgysylltu’n gymunedol, drwy ofal iechyd neu drwy bŵer cathartig hiwmor, adloniant ac adrodd stori. Dwi’n credu bod y gallu i fynegi ein hunain yn greadigol yn gallu gwneud gwahaniaeth enfawr i’n bywydau ni gyd, drwy feithrin cymuned, hyder, gwella hwyliau a’r gallu i ganolbwyntio, yn ogystal â datblygu sgiliau newydd! Dwi’n llawn cyffro i fod yn gweithio fel Hyrwyddwr Creadigrwydd gyda 64 miliwn o artistiaid, a dwi’n edrych ymlaen at weithio gyda fy nghymuned leol drwy gydol mis Ionawr a thu hwnt. Mae her mis Ionawr yn gyfle hyfryd i greu gwaith yn y fan a’r lle a datgloi mymryn o greadigrwydd ar ddechrau’r flwyddyn! Dwi’n gobeithio defnyddio fy rôl a’r her i greu cyfleoedd anffurfiol newydd i bobl allu dod at ei gilydd a chreu.

Do

Make a portrait of yourself using a medium that you’re drawn to – this could be a drawing, a sculpture, or even a piece of writing or a short film. It can also be realistic (for example, a drawing that looks like you) or totally abstract (something that represents you without looking in any way similar to you). Create something as unique as you are!

Gwnewch bortread o’ch hun yn defnyddio cyfrwng sy’n apelio atoch – gall hwn fod yn ddarlun, yn gerflun, neu hyd yn oed yn ddarn o ysgrifennu neu ffilm fer. Gall hefyd fod yn realaidd (er enghraifft, darlun sy’n edrych fel chi) neu’n hollol haniaethol (rhywbeth sy’n eich cynrychioli chi heb edrych yn debyg i chi o gwbl). Lluniwch rywbeth sydd mor unigryw â chi!

Think

Think about more than your likeness – how can your thoughts, feelings, interests and story be incorporated into the piece?

Meddyliwch am fwy na’ch edrychiad – sut all eich meddyliau, teimladau, diddordebau a stori gael eu cynnwys yn y darn?

Share

This activity is a great ice breaker and a lovely way to get to know people better. Perhaps you could talk to someone in your local community, at a local centre, club or cafe, about building a big wall of self portraits?#TheJanuaryChallenge

Mae’r gweithgaredd hwn yn ffordd arbennig o dorri’r garw a dod i nabod pobl yn well. Efallai y gallech chi siarad â rhywun yn eich cymuned leol, mewn canolfan, clwb neu gaffi lleol ynglŷn ag adeiladu murlun o hunanbortreadau? #TheJanuaryChallenge
