Your Memory Poem
Day 3: Your Memory Poem
Welsh translation: Cerdd eich Atgof

“I work as a Community Researcher to embed lived experiences and seldom-heard voices into the heart of processes. This creative prompt is inspired by a method of analysis, called I-statements or I-poems. I love using I-poems because of their focus on sense-of-self and how people and communities represent themselves, rather than an interpretation of what they say. I believe it is a simple, accessible and powerful way for people to connect and understand each other’s diverse perspectives, beliefs and experiences.”

“Nid wyf yn artist ond mae bod yn greadigol mewn ffordd bob dydd wedi bod yn gysur a chymorth i mi ar adegau anodd. Dyma yw harddwch creadigrwydd – waeth beth sy’n cael ei greu, mae’r broses ynddo’i hun yn eithriadol bwerus. Bydd Her Mis Ionawr yn fy ngalluogi i hybu creadigrwydd a chysylltiadau mewn cymunedau lle mae gwir angen hynny.”

Close your eyes and think of a favourite place or memory. Take 2 minutes, longer if you wish, to imagine you are there. Think about what can you see, hear, smell, touch and taste.
Take a few moments to reflect on how this imagining of your place or memory has made you feel and think about. Perhaps there are feelings of nostalgia, happiness, melancholy, gratitude, excitement or calm.
When you are ready, see if you can complete the 8 statements (on the right) based on those senses, feelings and thoughts. If you don’t feel inspired to complete them all, just complete the ones you feel drawn to.
Your statements can be simple, a few words each or longer.
I see…
I smell…
I touch…
I hear…
I taste…
I think…
I feel…
I am grateful for…
Once you’re done, remove the pre-filled words of each statement, e.g. remove “I see” and so forth. If you want, you can change the order of your statements or you may wish to combine one or two. Ta-da, you’ve imagined your way to your very own poem! If you wish you can name your poem – and share with your peers.

Caewch eich llygaid a meddyliwch am eich hoff atgof o le neu amser penodol. Cymerwch ddau funud, mwy os hoffech, i ddychmygu eich bod yno. Meddyliwch am y pethau rydych yn eu gweld, eu clywed, eu harogli, eu cyffwrdd a/neu eu blasu. Ystyriwch eich teimladau yn yr atgof a’ch teimladau nawr – efallai eich bod yn teimlo hiraeth, hapusrwydd, tristwch, diolchgarwch, cynnwrf neu heddwch.
Pan rydych yn barod cwblhewch bump neu fwy o’r datganiadau isod ar sail y synhwyrau, y teimladau a’r meddyliau hynny. Mae’n iawn os nad ydych yn cael eich ysbrydoli i gwblhau pob un. Gall eich datganiadau fod yn fyr neu yn hir, yn llythrennol neu yn haniaethol. Ysgrifennwch hwy neu eu recordio’n llafar.
Rwy’n gweld…
Rwy’n arogli…
Rwy’n cyffwrdd…
Rwy’n clywed…
Rwy’n blasu…
Rwy’n meddwl…
Rwy’n teimlo…
Rwy’n ddiolchgar am…
Ar ôl gwneud hyn tynnwch y geiriau uchod o bob datganiad, hynny yw, tynnwch “Rwy’n gweld” ac yn y blaen. A dyna ni – rydych wedi creu eich cerdd eich hun o’ch atgof pwysig!
Think
How did you find the experience of escaping to a favourite memory? Did it come easily, or did it take a little longer to get there?
Sut brofiad oedd dianc i’ch hoff atgof? Oedd o’n hawdd, neu a oedd hi’n cymryd ychydig o amser i gyrraedd yno?
