My name is Ffion Pritchard - I'm an artist, filmmaker and facilitator from North Wales! I am interested in how art can benefit society, be it through community-engaged art, art in healthcare or through the cathartic power of storytelling, humour and entertainment. I believe that a creative outlet can make a massive difference in each of our lives, through building community, confidence, improving mood and concentration and developing new skills! I'm very excited to be working as a Creativity Champion with 64 million artists, and am looking forward to working with my local community throughout January and beyond. The January challenge is a wonderful opportunity to create spontaneous work and unlock some creativity at the start of the year! I hope to use my role and the challenge to create new, informal opportunities for people to get together and create.
Throughout my studies and career, I have completed a large number of self portraits. Looking back at them, I love seeing how I, and my work, have changed over the years. I often use this activity as an ice breaker, as it's a great way to break barriers and get people talking about their interests. I also love the debate of what can be considered a 'self portrait' and considering more abstract responses! There really is no limit to this one, a self portrait can be a scribble on the table, a piece of poetry, a formation of rocks, if you think it represents you!

Make a portrait of yourself using a medium that you're drawn to - this could be a drawing, a sculpture, or even a piece of writing or a short film. It can also be realistic (for example, a drawing that looks like you) or totally abstract (something that represents you without looking in any way similar to you). Create something as unique as you are!

Think about more than your likeness - how can your thoughts, feelings, interests and story be incorporated into the piece?

This activity is a great ice breaker and a lovely way to get to know people better. Perhaps you could talk to someone in your local community, at a local centre, club or cafe, about building a big wall of self portraits?#TheJanuaryChallenge
