Fanzines

Creativity is... Fanzine.

We’re so excited to leap into our very first Zinetober with the awesome Cut Out Club.

Cut Out Club began as a welcoming space for all to explore collage zine-making, with workshops designed to spark creativity and collaboration. Partnered with St. Margaret’s House in London, the club is expanding its reach across the UK to bring more zine-making opportunities to new audiences.

The Cut Out Club is led by passionate zine creators Iona and Tasch, who launched the project in 2023. Iona, founder of DeZiners, has crafted over 600 zines and facilitated workshops across the UK. Tasch, an artist and founder of Assemblage Collective, brings over a decade of experience leading creative workshops in some of London’s most iconic venues.

So, what’s Zinetober? Every Monday this month, we’re dropping inspiring zine-themed creative prompts designed to spark your imagination, get you reflecting, and most importantly—creating.

Do

Make a Fanzine!

Zines which contain references to certain fandoms are classified as ‘fanzines’ from the words ‘fandom’ and ‘zine’.

Whether you’re a first timer or a seasoned zinester, we’re here to show you how to make your very own, all you’ll need is an A4 sheet of paper (and optionally, scissors).

Download Cut Out Club's free printable ‘how to’ guide which not only explains how to make a zine in less than 10 steps, but also folds up to be a zine too.

What is a Zine? A zine (from "maga-zine") is a self-published, small-circulation booklet that is often created by hand and reproduced using a photocopier or printer. Zines are typically characterised by their DIY (do-it-yourself) ethos, unconventional content, and personal touch. They can cover a wide range of topics, including art, music, politics, personal stories, subcultures, and more. Zines are a form of grassroots publishing that allows individuals to express their creativity, share their ideas, and connect with like-minded communities without the constraints of traditional publishing.
